Stick to Basic With Samsung Chrono SCH-R261

Nowadays many smartphones are released to satisfy our technology hunger, however still there are people who stay stick to basic phone and don’t want to be bothered with the complexity of smartphone features. For that reasons, Samsung released its very basic phone namely Samsung Chrono SCH-R261. It can be said that it is a very basic phone as it main features are for calling and messaging - don’t expect grand multimedia features on this phone. Samsung Chrono SCH-R261 comes with a clamshell design measuring 94 x 46 x 17 mm and weighing 89 grams. It is equipped by two display; external and internal display. The external display located on the front side as the clamshell closed features 1.7 inches CSTN display. It manages to show signal strength, battery life, date, time, and unread messages notification. Above the external display is VGA camera. The right side is resided by microUSB charging port and camera key while the left side is volume rocker keys. Open up the clamshell through its sturdy hinge to reveal the 2 inches TFT internal display in QVGA (320 x 240 pixels) resolution. The internal display is quite bright with blocky fonts, however menu icons seems slightly blur. Below the internal display are navigation array and alphanumerical keypad. Navigation array consists of two soft keys and a square directional pad with central OK key as well as a Send key, a Clear key, and an End key. Alphanumerical keypad comes with roomy space and easy to use keys.

Samsung Chrono SCH-R261 runs over CDMA network and manages to reach EV-DO data network. Chrono's call quality is excellent and voices sound natural enough. Experiencing internet with EV-DO Rev. 0 up to 2.4 Mbps data network can be done by using Myriad 6.2 Web browser that supports WAP 2.0/xHTML web pages. Unfortunately, Chrono doesn’t feature WiFi but it still has Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP and EDR. MicroUSB port is only functioned to charge phone.

As mention earlier, don’t expect too much on multimedia features, as Samsung Chrono SCH-R261 comes with no music player, no video player and no camcorder. In multimedia feature, Chrono is only equipped by VGA (0.3 megapixels) camera that can capture images up to 640 x 480 pixels. As it lacks of autofocus and flash as well as low resolution, image qualities seem far from best but fine enough for casual shots. There is no external memory provided as it doesn’t feature microSD card slot, however Chrono is equipped by 51 MB of free internal memory.

Phonebook can save up to 1.000 entries; each may consist of multiple phone numbers, email address, photo ID and ringtone ID. Messaging features include text messaging (SMA) and picture messaging. Sadly, there are no email and IM clients supporting Chrono. In addition, there is organizer feature including calendar, alarm clock, world clock, stop watch, calculator, notepad, and unit converter. Lastly, Samsung Chrono SCH-R261 is powered by standard battery Li-Ion 800 mAh. The battery life is average at 5 hours 11 minutes of talk time or at 300 hours of standby time.
