Following the success of Freeform’s line offer the past few years, Samsung released its third generation of Freeform namely Samsung Freeform III for MetroPCS. It is still covering its predecessor features however some improvements are also being made to give better performance. Samsung Freeform III comes as a messaging phone that employs a candy bar design with full QWERTY keyboard in portrait mode. It is made out of plastic material chassis with rounded edges measuring 112 x 61 x 11 mm and weighing 92 grams. Located on the front side is 2.4 inches QVGA display with 480 x 320 pixels resolution and 256K colors supports. The display looks bright and sharp enough, except in direct sunlight. Below the screen there are navigation array and full QWERTY keyboard. Navigation array consists of two soft keys, a speakerphone key, a back key and a square four-way directional pad with central OK key as well as a Call and an End or Power key on either side of navigation array. Full QWERTY keyboard is arranged in four rows and on portrait mode. Around the phone’s side, there are microSD card slot, volume rocker keys, 3.5mm headset jack, camera shutter and microUSB charging ports. The back side is resided by camera lens and speakerphone.

Samsung Freeform III runs on MetroPCS’s tri-band 2G 1xRTT (850/1700/1900 MHz) CDMA network. For internet browsing, there is Myriad 6.2 web browser that manages to load WAP 2.0/xHTML web pages. Frankly speaking, the web browser runs very slowly as it only supported by 2G network. Other connectivity available includes Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP and EDR, microUSB connection and GPS navigation system with A-GPS and MetroNavigator GPS support. There is no Wi-Fi available.

Samsung Freeform III is also equipped by 1.3 megapixel camera with no flash or autofocus. It manages to capture images up to 1280 x 1024 pixels resolution but the qualities are poor. Some of camera features are color effects, white balance and night shot settings. Unfortunately, it cannot be functioned as a camcorder. To store data, Freeform III provides 100 MB internal memory and additional external memory via microSD card up to 32 GB. In multimedia feature, there is media player but it offers limited features.

Coming with full QWERTY keyboard, messaging experience surely become easier and faster. Messaging feature itself delivers text messaging (SMS), multimedia messaging (MMS), Instant Messaging (IM), and email. Instant Messaging service manages to support AIM, MSN, and Yahoo accounts. Notification types include Polyphonic ringtones, Vibration mode, Flight mode, and Silent mode. Organizer features available are calendar, alarm clock, world clock, calculator, stop watch, and memo pad. Other features include 1.000 entries of Phonebook, Games, Call records, Voice memo, Voice dial, Voice commands, and speakerphone. To support all of features, Samsung Freeform III is powered by Standard battery Li-Ion 1000 mAh. The battery life is rated up to 3 hours 20 minutes of talk time or up to 300 hours of standby time.
