Samsung Factor, a Basic Phone for Boost Mobile

Completing its basic phone’s line, Boost Mobile together with Samsung released it basic phone namely Samsung Factor. The phone designed to carry out calling and texting communication as its main features. Closer look, here is the review and detail specification of the phone.

Samsung Factor comes in clamshell style with shiny gray plastic chassis. It fells small on hand and very light measuring 97 x 48 x 18 mm and weighing 91 grams. Similar to other recent basic flip phones, Samsung Factor comes with two displays as well, external and internal displays. The external display is located on the front side (clamshell closed) and features 1.2 inches CSTN external display with 65.000 colors supports. The external display manages to show signal strength, battery life, status profile, date and time as well as incoming messages. Above the external display is VGA camera lens. Flip open the clamshell phone to reveal 2 inches TFT internal display with 128 x 160 pixels resolution and 262.000 colors support. Below the internal display are navigation array and roomy alphanumerical keypad. Navigation array consists of two soft keys, a Camera key, a Back key, a square toggle with central OK key, a Talk key, a Speaker key, and an End or Power key. Alphanumerical keypad comes with well-spaced keys designed for quick and easy texting. Around the phone’s side, there are microUSB port for charging and headset, a camera key and volume control keys.

Samsung Factor is a basic phone that comes with calling and texting communications as its main features along with its basic features. Therefore, do not expect too much on this phone. Factor runs on Boost’s CDMA dual-band (800MHz, 1900MHz) 2G network. Overall, reception is great and voice quality is fine. It also does a nice job with background noise reduction and brings up clear sound. Meanwhile, messaging features coming to Samsung Factor include text messaging (SMS), multimedia messaging (MMS), Instant Messaging (IM) and Email. Instant Messaging (IM) manages to support IM clients such as Yahoo!, AIM and MSN. Email feature supports AOL, Gmail, Windows Live, and Yahoo as well as your own IMAP or POP3 accounts.

Coming to multimedia features, Samsung Factor may not give best features. There is no music player, no video player, and no radio. The only multimedia feature available is camera. The camera comes with 0.3 megapixels VGA camera that can capture images up to 640 x 480 pixels resolution. Some of camera features include scene modes, multishot, night mode, white balance settings, quality settings, and shutter sounds. The camera can also be functioned to record video with very poor quality. To store data, Factor only provides 28 MB internal memory, as it does not feature microSD card slot for external memory.

You can also experiencing internet on Samsung Factor by using built-in web browser supports WAP 2.0/xHTML and HTML web pages. It also comes with other connectivity such as Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP and EDR, and microUSB connection.  Other features available on Samsung Factor are 600 entries of Phonebook, alarm clock, world clock, calculator, calendar, notepad, voice memo, voice recorder, voice commands and speakerphone. Supporting all features, Samsung Factor comes with standard battery Li-Ion 800 mAh.
