London New Years 2012

New Years even London, confirming the pattern of carnival like events, with the cluster of tweets being concentrated in a few areas where people come to celebrate.

7 Steps to Incredible Personal Productivity

Happy New Year!!!  My very first post for 2012, and I wished all a good start for everyone in 2012.  I hope the below 7 steps would help all of us increase our personal productivity, and stick to whatever new year resolution that we have.  Cheers!!!

Practical advice to turn an average workday into an incredibly productive day.

Occasionally you need to go the extra mile. Sometimes you need to complete a major project, tackle a task you’ve put off, or just knock out a ton of work in one day.
Here’s the best way to turn a normal workday into an incredibly productive workday:

1. Let everyone know. Interruptions destroy focus and kill productivity. So are the guilt trips your family "sometimes unintentionally" lay on you. Let coworkers and family know you’re planning a “project day.” Tell key customers too. Announce you will be tied up on, say, Tuesday, and that you will respond to calls and emails on Thursday. Let people know who to contact in an emergency. Some will get with you before Tuesday, and the rest will make a mental note you’re not available. In either case, you’re covered.

Plus you get the “peer pressure” benefit: When you tell people you plan to finish a project you will be more likely to see the job through. Peer pressure can be positive motivation harness it.

2. Set a target. Don’t plan your project day based on fuzzy parameters like, “I will stay at it as long as possible,” or, “I won’t leave until I no longer feel productive.” Those approaches give you an easy out. Commit to working for as long as you estimate it will take. Pick a number.

There’s a cool benefit to this approach too: The longer the time frame you set the quicker the early hours seem to go by. When I worked in manufacturing we normally worked eight-hour shifts. The hours before lunch seemed endless; the last two hours of the day were even worse. During busy periods we worked twelve hour shifts and the mornings seemed to fly by something about knowing you will be working for a long time allows you to stop checking the clock. When you know you’re in for a long haul your mind automatically adapts. Try it, it works.

3. Start unusually early or unusually late. When you step outside your norm, your perspective of time shifts as well. Start at 5 a.m. or revisit your college days and start at 6 p.m. and work through the night. Set the stage for an unusually productive day by dramatically changing your normal routine.

4. Delay gratification. Say you like to listen to music while you work. Don’t, at least for the first couple of hours. That way, when your enthusiasm really starts to wane, turning on the music will perk you back up. Hold off on whatever things you use to brighten up your workday, at least for a while. Delayed gratification is always better gratification, and in this case can provide just the spark you need to keep going.

5. Refuel and recharge before you need to. When endurance athletes wait until they are thirsty to drink they’ve waited too long. The same premise applies at work. Have a snack a little earlier than normal. Start drinking water right immediately. If you normally sit, stand up before you start to feel stiff or cramped. If you normally stand, sit before your back stiffens or your legs ache. Be proactive so discomfort can’t dampen your motivation or weaken your resolve.
And make sure you plan meals wisely. Don’t take an hour for lunch. Plan food ahead of time that you can prepare and eat quickly. The goal is to refuel, re-hydrate, and keep on rolling. Remember, this is an unusual day treat it that way.

6. Don’t take rest breaks. Take productivity breaks. Newton’s Law of Productivity states that a productive person in motion tends to stay in motion. Maintaining momentum is everything. Don’t take a TV or Internet break. Take breaks that reinforce your sense of activity and accomplishment. Take a quick walk and think about what you’re tackling next. Then jump back in. Even a few minutes spent in the land of inactivity make it hard to regain momentum.

7. Don’t stop until it’s done. Stopping simply because you’re tired or bored is habit-forming. (Plus you’re always capable of doing more than you think.) If the only barrier to completion is effort or motivation, stay at it and bust through that barrier.

Think about your normal workday; at some point you typically think, “That’s it. That’s all I have in me today.” That limit was set long ago, but it’s an artificial limit based on habit. Pushing through the “pain” is a habit anyone can develop, and when you do, you automatically set your effort limit a little higher making you capable of even more on a regular basis.

Peugeot to unveil future models

Peugeot 908 LMP1 Le Mans car
Feast your eyes on the 2011 championship-winning Peugeot 908 LMP1 Le Mans car. The blindingly quick Le Mans prototype weighs approximately 925kg and develops 550bhp from its 3.7-litre V8 diesel unit. At the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the 908 grabbed three of the top four spots, coming second only to the Audi R18.
Alongside the Le Mans racer will be Peugeot’s first car for India – the 508. This will be the French carmaker’s flagship model in India and Peugeot realises the importance of having a diesel variant, so the first engine will be a 1.6-litre diesel developing 112bhp. It will be interesting to see how Peugeot prices the 508, which needs to cost less than a Honda Accord to succeed in India. Styling-wise, Peugeot’s designs should abide well with Indian tastes compared to the quirky styling of its French counterpart, Renault. Peugeot will also display the RCZ sportscar at the Expo.

Is Peugeot ready for its second innings in India? Its Rs 4,000 crore investment in Gujarat surely suggests so.

Samsung SCH-R631runs on CDMA network and already supports EV-DO data connectivity. For browsing internet, there is built-in web browser supports WAP 2.0/xHTML webpage. Bluetooth service already supports A2DP that allows you to listen to music through compatible Bluetooth headset.
Samsung SCH-R631 is equipped by 2 megapixels camera that can capture image up to 1.600 x 1.200 pixels resolution. It can also function as a camcorder. Unfortunately, the camera comes with minimum feature. It has no autofocus or LED flash. The image quality of the camera is good enough but the video quality is still average. For the storage, the phone has 100 MB internal memory. If that is not enough, there is additional memory external up to 16 GB via microSD card. LG A230, a Dual SIM GSM Card by LG

Strengthen its position as one of biggest phone manufacture, LG continuously develops its phone in all level. For its entry-level phone, LG comes back with its new and fresh phone namely LG A230. Powered by dual SIM card support and some improvements, the phone appears to be one of the reliable entry-level phones. In details, here is review of LG A230.

Not much to be said about LG A230 as it comes with a very simple design and basic features. Simple since it is designed in basic candybar phone measuring 108.8 x 46.6 x 13.9 mm. The phone is also light as it weighs only 83 grams. The phone is covered by fine black plastic material with rounded edges. On the front side, there is 1.77 inches TFT screen with 128 x 160 pixels resolution. Below the screen sits navigation array and alphanumeric keypad. The navigation array consists of two soft key, a Call key, an End Call or Power key and four way toggle key with OK button in the middle. The typing experience is pretty good on its keypad since it comes with rubbery and soft buttons. Above the screen is only decorated by an earpiece and a LG logo. The right side is left naked while on the left side, there is a micro SD card slot. Not to mention 1.3 megapixels camera on the back side of the phone.

An appealing feature you may expect from LG A230 is its dual SIM cards feature. The phone runs on two GSM networks which lets you jump from one network to another if you own two SIM cards. All you have to do is inserting both SIM cards in their slots after removing the back cover and battery of the phone. It also supports GPRS and EDGE for data connectivity. Internet browsing is available through built-in web browser supports WAP 2.0/xHTML webpage.

As a basic phone, LG A230 is also equipped with some extra features. There is 1.3 megapixels camera with no autofocus and flash. It is quite disappointing because there are so many basic phones offered higher-resolution cameras. The camera can capture images up to 1280 x 1024 pixels resolution. Camera features include standard camera setting and digital zoom. Unfortunately, it cannot record videos. For the storage, LG A230 has 25 MB internal memory. If that is not enough, there is an additional external memory up to 8 GB via microSD card.

Entertaining its user, LG A230 is also equipped by media player for playing both music (MP3) and video (MP4). Although it comes with minimal and basic feature, the media player works well to entertain its users. In addition, there are FM radio and games.

Messaging features of LG A230 include text messaging (SMS), multimedia messaging (MMS) and email. There are also widgets integrated with social networking to keep in touch with your friends. Audio notifications available are Vibration mode and MP3 ringtones.

To supports all of its performance, LG A230 uses standard battery Li-Ion 950 mAh. The battery is rated up to 480 minutes of talk time.

FIRST DRIVE New BMW 3-series review, test drive

bmw 3 series
Testing a mainstream production saloon on a Formula 1 race track doesn’t serve any real purpose except to tell you how quick you (and the car) really are. You don’t just cruise from apex to apex but end up driving the wheels off whatever you’re piloting. So the first couple of hot laps of the Catalunya circuit in Spain were enough to reveal how far forward BMW has taken the new 3-series’ driving dynamics and why it is still the master of the class.
bmw 3 series
The incredible chassis balance and the sheer fluency with which the new 3-series handles makes you flip for it instantly. It’s the delightfully neutral attitude through corners that makes the 3-series feel so special. Turn-in is deliciously sharp and the complete lack of understeer is just astonishing. With Sport+ mode selected, you can play with the throttle to tighten your line. And then there’s the steering. Unlike its predecessors, the new 3’s steering has a natural, fluid feel that is hard to associate with electrically powered units. It may not weigh up as much as you would like when you lean into corners but the delicate balance between effort and accuracy is what makes this steering truly brilliant.
bmw 3 series interior
But the true genius of the 3-series lies in its ability to mix sportiness and comfort in equal measure and without any compromise. And the key to this is actually a button which resides on the centre console. Standard on every new 3-series is the Driving Experience Control system — BMW-speak for a wide range of driving modes you can choose from. This system, though already available on the 5- and 7-series, is further enhanced for its 3-series debut by also offering an ‘Eco Pro’ mode, which tweaks the throttle map to eke out the best fuel economy.
The first thing that you become acutely aware of is the fantastic ride quality. Over uneven tarmac, in Comfort mode, the 3-series feels like its gliding, the quiet interiors adding to the almost eerie feeling. We are guessing this will be the default setting when it comes to India, but if you are fortunate enough to live in a place where the roads are open and good then the Sport and Sport+ modes are the ones to play with.
bmw 3 series steering
In Sport mode, the 3-series instantly feels more responsive. The steering, throttle and gearbox feel sharper and this sense is further enhanced in Sport+ mode, where the traction control switches to a more entertaining setting. What’s amazing is that, except over sharp ridges and bumps, the new 3-series is pretty comfy even in the stiffest Sport+ setting. The other revelation is the latest-generation run-flat tyres, which are no longer ride-corrupting, and this should finally silence the critics; us included.
BMW made available two of the four engine options at the International launch, and both of these are expected in India. The 320d gets the familiar 1995cc motor developing 181bhp from the previous 3-series, but it’s the 328i which gets an all-new, twin-scroll turbo, direct-injection petrol engine. This compact 2-litre, in-line four, replaces the naturally aspirated 3-litre, in-line six. It develops 242bhp, which means the 328i is marginally less powerful than the outgoing 330i, but it produces 16 percent more torque and being 45kg lighter, it’s actually quicker. Also a first on the 3-series is the same ZF eight-speed gearbox with paddle-shifters which debuted on the 5-series (though it was first seen on the 760Li), with an auto stop-start function as an option.
bmw 3 series expo
We first had a go in the 328i and immediately noticed there’s virtually no turbo lag. This engine pulls cleanly and hard from low revs and the quick-shifting eight-speeder complements the wide torque spread to give an instant burst of acceleration at any speed. In Sport and Sport+ mode, the transmission hangs onto lower gears much longer but even in the Comfort setting the brilliant engine-gearbox combo makes light work of any drive. If there’s a fault it’s the bland-sounding exhaust note and that ultimate creaminess at high revs you can only get with a six-cylinder. For that, you will have to wait for the 335i which will follow the 328i into India.
As you’d expect, the 320d is slower on paper than the 328i and this was most obvious on the Catalunya track. But on the road, the diesel 3-series packed quite a punch and the strong mid-range makes it feel more potent. At high revs the engine has that familiar gruffness and is not the most silent of diesels but that’s not to say the noise is obtrusive.
The cabin is also a step up from before with a noticeable increase in legroom at the rear and better overall comfort, but it doesn’t wow you like the rest of the car. Though the interiors have a sharper design and quality details abound, it has the same understated feel that is a bit too functional. The dashboard is more driver-oriented than before, with the centre console tilting slightly inwards, and there are lots of bits borrowed from the 5-series like the switchgear and other controls.
In fact, underpinning the brand new chassis is a lot of 5-series architecture. The 3-series gets double wishbones in the front for the first time and a multi-link Z-axle at the rear. The platform has also been engineered to accommodate four-wheel-drive variants.
If the way the 3-series drives doesn’t excite you enough then the styling certainly will. This sixth-generation (F30) 3-series is bigger and more muscular than before and you just can’t miss the distinctive bonnet that bulges forward, or the stunning headlights which extend inwards to meet the squat kidney grille. Double swage lines that run under the base of the window and along the door-handle line are another great piece of design detail. The rear looks more straightforward but the wider track gives it a nice, squat stance.
It was really hard to fault the new 3-series but a more critical evaluation can only be expected when the car hits Indian shores before the middle of 2012. For BMW’s rivals, that’s a breather they need to make the most of. For customers it’s time to muster the approximately Rs 26 lakh asking price for the base 320d or around Rs 35 lakh (both ex-showroom) if you fancy the top-spec 328i. This is one car that’s going to be hard to beat.

New Hyundai Sonata launch at Expo

hyundai sonata at auto expo
Hyundai’s striking design efforts of late should make the Korean carmaker’s hall a huge attraction. Treat yourself to the absolutely stunning Veloster coupe, another class example of Hyundai’s fluidic design language. Oodles of sex appeal aside, the Veloster has a 1.6-litre petrol engine developing 138bhp and a raft of safety features like ESC, ABS, TCS, Brake Assist and six airbags. The Veloster sports an unusual 1+2-door layout where the passenger side has an additional rear suicide door.
hyundai HND 7 at expo
Hyundai will also unveil a new concept car to the world called the HND-7. The company hasn’t revealed any information yet about it so you are in for a big surprise. The new Sonata that’s being geared up to replace the current-gen Transform gets the perfect stage for its India debut. Arguably the best looking Hyundai to date, it should be lapped up by executive car buyers in India. It’s not one for the enthusiast though, so don’t expect corner-carving capability, but rather chauffeur-driven comfort instead.
The second surprise from Hyundai will be a new SUV concept. It’s in the Rs 8-10 lakh range and is likely to be based on one of Hyundai’s existing platforms. The company wants to plug every gap in its portfolio so this Expo is a peek into Hyundai’s not-so-distant future in India.

XUV500 to be dearer by Rs 55,000

new zxuv 500
Three months after its launch, the Mahindra XUV 500 will see its first price revision from January 1, 2012. The quantum of hike will be Rs 30,000 for the base W6 variant, Rs 50,000 for the W8 2WD variant and Rs 55,000 for the W8 4WD variant.
Currently, the XUV 500 W6 is priced at Rs 10.8 lakh, W8 2WD retails at Rs 11.95 and the top-end 4WD W8 variant is available for Rs 14.16 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. For all the current bookings, for which deliveries have not been made, the increase would only be 50 percent of the announced price hike.
M&M says the prices have to be increased as they were ‘introductory invitation price’ and there has also been a considerable impact of increase in raw material costs and the rupee depreciation with respect to dollar and euro.
The production for the XUV5OO is as per schedule and the company is also in the process of further ramping up production at its plant in Chakan which will enable it to re-open bookings in January 2012.
M&M received 8,000 bookings for the XUV 500 within a fortnight of its launch. The company started the SUV’s production at a level of 2,000 units per month and is ramping up production to reach 4,500 units per month by June, 2012.

It comes with candybar design and full QWERTY keyboard. It’s rather small and light for a QWERTY phone as it measures 112 x 54 x 14.9 mm and weighs 96 grams. The phone is mostly covered by rubberized plastic with good texture. The battery cover has soft and textured finish. In addition, Clutch is certified to military specifications for shock, solar radiation, vibration, and dust. The front side of the phone is housed by 1.79 inches TFT display supports 65k color and dedicated messaging, web browser, and camera buttons directly to the right of the display. Below the screen, there are navigation keys and four rows of QWERTY keyboard. On the left side of the phone, there are volume control buttons, push-to-talk button, 2.5 mm headset jack and microUSB charging port. The VGA camera sits alone in the back side of the phone.

For the interface, Clutch comes with a basic one. The interface is not only basic, but also unattractive. Because of the low resolution display (120 x 160 pixels), the menus become very compact and small, even it shortens the words "contacts" and "messages" to "Contcs" and "Mesgs." You can personalize the Clutch by changing wallpapers, clock formats and theme.

Clutch i465 is equipped by VGA camera without flash that can capture image in five resolutions, from 640 x 480 pixels resolution down to 160 x 128 pixels resolution. Camera features include quality settings, digital zoom, self-timer, brightness, and shutter sounds. The camera is also functioned as a camcorder with a similar set of editing options. Unfortunately, there is only 20 MB internal memory for saving your data.

When it comes on phone performance, it can be said that he voice quality on Clutch i465 is pretty good. It sounds loud and clear, and the speakerphone is loud even in the noisiest environments.

For data connectivity, it has a built-in web browser that is very simple and only offers limited access to the web. Other connectivity includes Bluetooth for wireless headsets and GPS navigation system.

Motorola Clutch i465 can save up to 600 entries of phonebook; each consists of seven phone numbers, an email address and notes. Basic features of the phone include a vibrate mode, a memo pad, a speakerphone, a voice memo recorder, call timers, and a datebook as well as two games. Messaging features of Motorola Clutch i465 include text messaging (SMS) in threaded view, multimedia messaging, and email. Furthermore, there is also walkie-talkie Push-to-Talk application available. Motorola Clutch i465 battery life is rated up to 5.5 hours of talk time and 5.16 days of standby time.

Overall, Motorola Clutch i465 is still a good phone, all things considered. Don’t focus only on its QWERTY keyboard as the phone feels more like an entry-level feature phone with an extra messaging feature.
